ZKW Generates Over 1.2 Billion EUR in Revenue in 2017

The ZKW corporate group grew to 9,000 employees in the 2017 fiscal year.

Wieselburg, 4/12/2018. The ZKW corporate group concluded another record year in 2017. The international specialist in innovative premium lighting and electronic systems succeeded in increasing its consolidated group revenues to over 1.2 billion euros. This corresponds to an increase of almost 30% over the previous year. At the same time, the corporate group’s workforce grew from around 7,500 in 2016 to roughly 9,000 employees at the end of 2017.

The company is one of the world’s leading strategic partners to the automotive industry. It operates at a total of eight locations – two in Austria as well as in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, China, India, Mexico, and the USA. “2016 was already an extremely successful year for ZKW. We are glad we could continue this positive development in 2017 as well. Revenues and staffing numbers climbed to record heights as well,” says Oliver Schubert, CEO of the ZKW Group.

ZKW Invests in Its Locations

In addition to expanding its machine and equipment capacities, the company is also investing in research and development to improve its innovative capabilities. It has created highly qualified positions, for example, in Wiener Neustadt.

International Hub Expanded

The Chinese location in Dalian, which produces lighting systems for both European and local Chinese customers, grew rapidly in 2017. The Chinese location increased its workforce to roughly 900 to keep up with steady order requests.

For American customers, it is especially important to have a local direct contact person. Therefore, we serve these customers not only from our ZKW location in Silao, Mexico, but also from our sales and development office in Troy, USA. “The ZKW Group’s branch offices allow it to cover the NAFTA region highly effectively. This means we can address our customers’ concerns through direct contact. Our location in the Chinese city of Dalian also functions as a collaborative platform with Asian customers. ZKW took the opportunity to expand internationally at just the right moment and is continuing on a successful trajectory thanks to its continuously growing foundation,” says Oliver Schubert.

The Future Role of Light

The lighting and electronics specialist is already developing concepts focused on the “light of the future”. The role of light will change substantially in the coming years – especially with the advent of autonomous driving. ZKW wants to be equipped to meet these changes and has already presented forward-thinking lighting solutions and applications for mobility concepts at the IAA (International Automobil Ausstellung) in the fall of 2017. ZKW installed a light room at the largest automotive exhibition in Frankfurt and presented concrete use cases for how lighting functions will work for autonomous driving. These and many other innovations are key to improving the ZKW corporate group’s market position.
