Vacations full of experiments: ZKW organizes first MINT children’s camp
From August 18 to 22, ZKW organized a STEM vacation camp for the children of employees for the first time. 16 children aged 6 to 10 immersed themselves in the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Under the professional guidance of two supervisors from the Science Pool VWV educational institute, the premises and garden of the ZKW company restaurant were transformed into a lively field of experimentation. The children had the opportunity to awaken their curiosity through playful activities and exciting experiments.
“With the first STEM vacation camp, we are taking an important step in our ‘work-life balance’ initiative, which was created as part of our Diversity Committee. It is very important to us not only to promote the professional development of our employees, but also to relieve and enrich their private lives. In cooperation with Sciencepool, we offer a varied and high-quality program that provides children with unforgettable vacation experiences and gives their parents the certainty that their children are well looked after. Experience knowledge and fun
The camp focused on teaching STEM topics from the fields of mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics and technology in an age-appropriate and fun way. Among other things, the children learned how to build crossbows, street lamps and insect hotels and what light pollution means. They also explored the laws of physics, for example with Tensegrity, a system of rigid and flexible parts. In addition to the scientific activities, there was plenty of time for games and creative breaks in the garden to strengthen the sense of community.
Success across the board
With its first vacation camp, ZKW was not only able to inspire young talent for STEM subjects, but also emphasize its appreciation for the families of its employees. The positive feedback from the children and their parents confirms the success of the camp. “The issue of childcare during the vacations is a challenge for many parents. That’s why it’s great that this vacation camp was offered. My son is enthusiastic about the content and experiments. It’s also an opportunity for him to get to know the company where dad works!” says ZKW employee Andreas Riess.
