ZKW establishes new development laboratory in Wieselburg

ZKW is expanding its company headquarters in Wieselburg substantially: The lighting systems specialist is constructing a new development laboratory at the same time as it builds its logistics center. The project covers an area of 2,500 square meters and represents an investment of around seven million euros over the next two years. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held this spring. The new laboratory and logistics building will open their doors in the summer of 2021. “Wieselburg is a hotbed of innovation, and the biggest driver behind our long-term corporate success. With this forward-thinking investment, we are building up the location by creating new jobs for technical specialists and expanding our expertise in the area of electronics”, explains Oliver Schubert, CEO of the ZKW Group.

Modern Testing Equipment
To be well-equipped to face the future demands of the automotive industry, ZKW is expanding its expertise in electronics and in development and testing technology – in addition to its existing electronics plant in Wiener Neustadt. The new development laboratory will be located on the ground floor of the new logistics center. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art testing equipment to handle quality testing for headlight systems. It will also have options for testing electronic components, such as to test for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The company is investing in automated test monitoring and modern equipment as part of its measurement technology. These include CT scanners to screen and measure components. “The new features we have added to the development laboratory allow us to increase our testing capacity and significantly shorten reaction times for developing future products” summarizes Stefan Hauptmann, General Plant Manager for ZKW Lighting Systems Wieselburg.

Certified testing laboratory
As a premium manufacturer, quality is particularly important to ZKW. The company plans to have some of its tests certified under the ISO 17025 standard. “This will allow us to handle even more complex requirements for our lighting systems. We strive to follow our strategy when developing high-quality lighting systems. This helps us always stay on top of the newest technology and offer innovative products”, Schubert says.
